NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Former women's volleyball and softball player Nikomi Thompson was inducted as a member of the Mount Saint Mary College Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, April 17, 2015.

Thompson is one of the most successful two-sport athletes in Mount Saint Mary history. She played four years for the women’s volleyball team, finishing her career with eight program records. To this day, she still holds the records for most service aces in a four-set match (13), five-set match (12), single-season (130), career (344) and service aces per set in her career (1.11). She had 839 kills (2.7 per game) and 1,231 digs (3.96 per game) through her four-year career. She was named to the Skyline Women’s Volleyball All-Conference Team on three occasions throughout her career.

Thompson finished her three-year softball career with a 2.29 ERA, the best in the program’s history to this day. When she graduated, she also held the record for single-season ERA with 1.65 in 2001. She also finished her three seasons with a .331 batting average and .442 slugging percentage. She was twice named to the Skyline Softball All-Conference First Team as a pitcher, and once to the Second Team as a batter. She was also once named to the ECAC Division III Softball Metro Region Second Team as a pitcher.

Thompson has done plenty of coaching in both volleyball and softball since graduating from the Mount. She was a volunteer coach for WHOOSH, a local travel volleyball program, for three years. She has also coached junior varsity softball on and off for seven years and varsity softball for a year. She coached junior varsity volleyball in 2004, and varsity volleyball from 2005-13. She also currently plays in a women’s softball league and for a women’s travel volleyball team.

Thompson expressed a lot of pride in making some of her best memories with her incredible teammates. She said that some of her best memories were produced on the court, field and bus rides with her teammates for both volleyball and softball. She was also very proud to win the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference championship in volleyball, as well as multiple trips to the Skyline Conference Championship and the NCAA Tournament trip to William Paterson University in 2001 with the softball team after winning the Skyline Championship.

Thompson has worked as a dispatcher for the Monticello Police Department since 2013. She taught at John S. Burke Catholic High School from 2004-14, and at Mount Carmel from 2003-04
