Mount Saint Mary Athletics Hall of Fame
NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Former softball and volleyball player Melissa (Anghelone) Tackabury was inducted as amember of the Mount Saint Mary College Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 5, 2014.
Melissa (Anghelone) Tackabury was a two-sport star in her time at the Mount. An offensive stud in softball, she was a two-time All-Skyline student-athlete and currently holds the Mount record for runs scored in her career (100). She was twice named the Knights' MVP ('04, '05). In 2004, she ranked 25th in the NCAA with a .472 batting average, and 28th with 0.4 doubles per game.
In contrast to her softball specialty, she was one of the best defensive players in Mount women's volleyball history. She was named the 2004 Skyline Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year. She ranked third nationally in 2004 with 8.12 digs per game. Her name appears six times in the Mount volleyball record books, with records including most digs in a three-set match (37, Oct. 18, 2001 vs. Misericordia), four-set match (47, Oct. 26, 2004 vs. New Jersey City), five-set match (45, Oct. 11, 2004 vs. St. Joseph's-L.I.), most digs in a single season (690 in 2004), most digs per set in a season (8.12 in 2004) and digs per set in her career (4.67).
She is currently a math teacher at Madison Central School. She is married to her husband, Jay Tackabury, who played baseball at the Mount and graduated with Melissa in 2005, and they have three children, Jay, Grace and Carter. Her proudest moments at the Mount were being nationally ranked, statistically, in both softball and volleyball, as well as earning Skyline Conference awards.
