Another standout on the hardwood for the Knights, Kenny Lane helped lead the Mount to 75 victories over a four year career, including 44 against conference rivals. The Knights appeared in three Skyline Conference Championship games in his career, claiming the conference crown in 2005 and earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Over a four year career, Kenny appeared in 110 games for the Knights and averaged nearly a double-double and is one of fourteen 1,000 point scorers at Mount Saint Mary, ranking 12th on the scoring list with 1,051 points. Kenny held the career rebounding record with 937 boards until the 2011-12 season and the career blocked shots record until the 2013-14 campaign. He was a career 43.8-percent shooter from the floor and totaled 113 assists and 76 steals.

Kenny served as a team captain in three of his four years with the Knights and went on to earn Skyline Conference Honorable Mention accolades twice. He produced 55 blocked shots as a junior, a single season record that stood until 2013-14 and finished the season ranked 37th nationally in blocked shots.

During the 2002-03 season, the Knights put together a 13 game winning streak, a record that still stands, with the help of Lane and won 23 games during the same season, a mark that has been matched just once since.

Kenny graduated from the Mount with eight individual records and was part of six team marks and during his senior year led the country in rebounds per game, before finishing the season ranked 16th nationally in the category.

Of all the success on the floor, one of Kenny’s fondest memories came during the ‘Miracle at the Mount.’ With the team trailing 13 points with three minutes to go in the Skyline semifinals, the Knights put together an unforgettable comeback that led to the entire student section storming the court as a result of Mike Hoyt’s fade away three-pointer at the buzzer.  The other moment that stands out in was winning the 2004-2005 Skyline Conference Championship and cutting the net down with all of my teammates and coaches.

“Being a student-athlete at the Mount has taught me many invaluable life lessons like hard work and perseverance that not only benefited me throughout my college years but has allowed me to be successful in my professional career as well.  In addition, this experience has taught me to be selfless and that the journey and success of a group or team is much more special and rewarding than any individual accomplishments.  Since leaving the Mount, I have also learned that in any field or profession, you are required to effectively work and interact with others and my experience as a player, teammate and student-athlete has definitely prepared me for my professional career and future.”

After graduating with a degree in psychology from the Mount, Kenny earned his Master’s in in Elementary and Special Education from Mount Saint Mary in 2008. He currently is a fourth and fifth grade special education team at Fostertown ETC Magnet School in Newburgh and lives with his wife, Lisa, in White Plains.
