Mount Saint Mary College Athletics

The Mount Saint Mary College Sports Medicine staff is committed to providing traditional athletic training and sports medicine services to all our student-athletes.

The underlying philosophy of the department of sports medicine is to return injured student-athletes to competition as quickly and as safely as possible. The same level of care is provided to all student-athletes regardless of sport or participation level. We also believe it is important to educate the student-athlete about their injury to assist in the rehabilitation process and to help prevent re-injury. The athletic training room for the Knights and the sports medicine offices are located in Kaplan Recreation Center beside the gymnasium. The sports medicine staff is specifically available for the student-athletes throughout the school year.

Mount Saint Mary College’s Sports Medicine Department is affiliated with several physicians and physical therapy clinics in the area, as well as Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital and Crystal Run Healthcare. In addition to athletic trainers on staff, the Sports Medicine team includes Head Team Physician Dr. Justin Conway.  Dr. Conway is a board certified Primary Care Sports Medicine physician who is readily available to MSMC athletes either in the training room or his nearby office when needed.


Services:
The sports medicine staff provides many services to assist in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. Services include:
- Evaluation to determine medical eligibility
- Development of individualized rehabilitation programs
- Education of the student-athlete regarding their injury and its treatment
- Referral to appropriate specialists
- Weekly On-Campus Team Doctor Appointments

Insurance:
The NCAA and Mount Saint Mary College require each student athlete to show proof of primary insurance coverage either through self coverage or through a parent or guardian. An insurance information form is part of the athletic paperwork each athlete is required to complete and submit to the athletic department. Mount Saint Mary offers a limited, secondary insurance policy which is available to all students.
