Caroline Ferrero Feeney played an important role in turning the Women’s Tennis program at Mount Saint Mary into a perennial contender in the Skyline Conference over the course of her career.

In the season prior to her arrival in Newburgh, the Knights won just two matches and were winless against conference rivals. Over her first two seasons with the Mount, the Knights went a combined 18-7 overall and 10-1 in league play and during her final two seasons finished up 26-4 and 10-0 in the Skyline Conference on their way to back-to-back Skyline Conference Championships.

Caroline won at least eight singles matches in each of her four seasons as a Knight. After going 8-3 as a freshman, she posted a 10-3 mark as a sophomore and an 11-5 mark as a junior and matched the then career singles wins record at the Mount. She finished her career with 38 singles wins and 67 combined singles and doubles victories.

Caroline was named either MVP or Co-MVP of the team in each of her four seasons and played first singles and as part of the first doubles pair throughout her career. She was named a team captain as a junior and a senior and earned First Team All-Skyline Conference distinction in her final three seasons. In addition, she earned Skyline Conference Weekly honors three times in her career.

“Being a student athlete gave me a second family while away at college. I never had a sister but being part of the tennis team gave me a support system and the sisters that I always wanted. It also taught me how to balance my life as a student, athlete, and my social life which is important after you graduate. Right after I graduated I was teaching, coaching, and going for my master’s and being a student-athlete taught me how to balance my life,” said Ferrero Feeney.

She added, “Many of the girls on the team are still in touch. We are all proud mothers and professionals which I believe was fostered by the values and education we received at MSMC. I am proud of the accomplishments we had at the time and proud of the people we are today. I accept this position in the Hall of Fame but as in any team I did it with the help of my team.”

Of all accomplishments the team had over her career, Caroline fondly recalls night practices, the bus trips and praying prior to matches.

After graduation from the Mount, Caroline went on to earn her Master’s from Stony Brook and coached tennis at Greenlawn Middle School and Collegiate High School. Currently, she is a Founding Teacher at Waterside School for Leadership.

Caroline is married to Timothy Feeney ’03 and the couple has two children; Keira and Brian.
