Mount Saint Mary Athletics Hall of Fame
A standout on the basketball court for the Knights, Carlos Valdez is the first player in program history to record better than 1,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds. He helped the Knights to 59 victories over a four-year career, including matching the school record with 23 in 2011-12, a pair of appearances in the Skyline Conference Tournament and an ECAC Metro Division Championship.

Carlos appeared in 106 games, including 99 starts, for the Knights over his tenue at the Mount and amassed 1,391 career points and a program record 1,046 rebounds. He shot and efficient 56,.4-percent from the floor and rounded out a stellar career with 222 assists and 76 blocked shots.

Carlos was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year following the 2008-09 season and went on to be named First Team All-Skyline Conference twice and landed on the Second Team once. He earned ECAC Second Team honors as a sophomore and following his senior campaign earned D3Hoops.com Second Team All-Atlantic Region honors and Met Writers Second Team recognition.

Following graduation for the Mount with a degree in Information Technology, Carlos went on to work at a company called Epicor for about six months, before being selected in the BSN Draft (Professional Basketball League in Puerto Rico). He played professional basketball for a little over three years in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

"Being a student athlete gave me a family away from home. It provided a support system and discipline that kept me in the right track all through my four years. It helped me develop leadership skills and team skills that now I use in the real world when I played professionally overseas or at my current job."

Carlos lists his All-League selections and ECAC Championships as well as the 1,000 point, 1,000 rebound plateau as important achievements and among his proudest moments are claiming the ECAC crown, matching the program record for wins in a season and watching his teammate Kevin Millela score his 1,000th career point.

Currently, Carlos works as an Event Director for a Tech company called Angelbeat on Long Island. In addition he works at Lifetime Fitness in Garden City as a part time basketball trainer for children.
