Kadlubowski Announces Retirement After 17 Years Leading Mount Saint Mary Men’s Basketball

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - After 17 seasons at the helm of the Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball program, head coach Ryan Kadlubowski announced his retirement from college athletics.

Kadlubowski departs as one of the most impactful coaches in program history, having guided Mount Saint Mary to sustained success both on and off the court. He ranks first all-time in program history with 140 conference wins and second all-time with 186 career victories. Throughout his tenure, Kadlubowski led the Knights to eight Skyline Conference postseason appearances, four ECAC Tournament berths, and captured the 2012 ECAC Metro Championship. A two-time Skyline Coach of the Year (2011, 2014), he mentored 15 All-Conference selections and eight 1,000-point scorers.

"On behalf of the MSMC Athletic Department, I want to thank Coach Kad for his dedication, leadership, and impact on the Men's Basketball program. He has been a valued part of the athletics team and will be missed. We wish Ryan, his wife, Jenn, and his two daughters, Maddie and Norah, all the best!" said Mount Saint Mary College Athletic Director Samantha Howe.

Kadlubowski's most decorated season came in 2011-12, when he led the program to a school-record 23-7 mark and its first ECAC Metro Championship. The following years continued to build on that success, including a 21-7 campaign in 2013-14 that saw the Knights reach the Skyline Championship game and earn another ECAC berth.

Under his leadership, Mount Saint Mary consistently developed standout student-athletes. The program produced multiple All-Region and All-Met selections, as well as a Skyline Rookie of the Year and an ECAC Metro Rookie of the Year. Several players reached historic milestones, including eight 1,000-point scorers and record-breaking performances. Kadlubowski's legacy at Mount Saint Mary will be defined not only by championships and accolades but also by the relationships he built and the culture he established over nearly two decades. Kadlubowski leaves the program as one of its most influential figures, with a lasting impact on generations of student-athletes and the Mount Saint Mary College community.

Coach Kadlubowski had this to say about his retirement:

It is with bittersweet emotion that, today, I announce my retirement from college athletics, therefore resigning from the position as Knights head men's basketball coach. It has been my honor and privilege to have led this basketball program for the past 17 years, but the time is right for me to step down.

You must sacrifice a lot of time and events in your own personal life as a college head coach, putting the needs of the program and its players first and foremost. I did this to the very best of my ability, and with all of my heart, for the entire 23 years I have been a college coach. Now, I choose to put the needs of my own family first, so that I can be the best dad, husband, son, brother, and friend that I want and need to be.

To all the current and former players that have ever played for me: thank you for all that you have given to me. So many young men who trusted me to help guide and teach, both on and off the court. I am proud of each and every one of you for giving your all in pursuing your academic and athletic goals. Most importantly, I am proud to see how you've grown into the men that you are today.

Behind every great coach, there are great assistants. I was blessed with many great ones by my side, all of whom I call friends and colleagues. Thank you to all of my assistants who were instrumental in the program's success.

Each practice during my tenure, I would write a "quote of the day" at the bottom of our practice plan, and post the paper for our team to read, think, and discuss. In that same spirit, I would like to leave with one final quote:

"You never really leave a place you love.
Part of it you take with you, leaving a part of yourself behind."

I loved my time as the head men's basketball coach at MSMC, and I will cherish all of the lifetime relationships and memories that have been created. Thank you again to the College, the Newburgh community, and the entire MSMC Knight Nation for your unwavering support throughout my entire career. I shall not forget it.

- Coach Kad
