Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary College celebrated Senior Day, honoring 7 seniors:
Brenden Graham,
Matthew Walsh,
Justin Rivera,
Rob Geremino,
JP Egan,
Matt Monaco, and
Soren Holmbo, while also honoring Team Impact member
Desmond Ongondo. Both teams got off to a rough offensive start, but
Brenden Graham was able finally get the Knights on the board.
Justin Rivera would knock down a tough and-one three for a four-point play to provide some energy for the Mount and the crowd. Injuries have decimated the Knights' roster late in the season, but the bench has stepped up to provide valuable minutes.
Matt Monaco was inserted into the starting lineup in February and had the best game of his career, scoring a career-best 14 points in his final match as a Knight. Mount Saint Mary was hungry for a win, as they battled all throughout the game.
JP Egan would tie the game up 27-27, converting an and-one over the Gryphons defender. The Mount would find themselves in a great position, trailing one of the third best team in the Skyline 34-31 at the half.
Matt Monaco opened up the second half with back-to-back made baskets, as he led the team in scoring this game. Not known for his three-point shooting, Monaco would go 2-3 from beyond the arc, with both shots coming in timely moments. The Knights held Sarah Lawrence scoreless for about 5 minutes, right before taking the lead, 43-42, thanks to a tip-in from
Liam Lynch. After struggling to score in the opening of the second half, both teams would combine for 7 made threes in a 3-minute span. The Knights would find themselves trailing 63-56 late in the half, but a made basket followed by a big offensive rebound from
JP Egan led to free throws, cutting the Gryphons lead to just 3 points. Mount Saint Mary grinded to the final whistle, but were unable to come away with a win as Sarah Lawrence won 73-67.
