Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team will make its first appearance in the Skyline Conference Championship since 2014 on Tuesday when it travels to fourth seeded Yeshiva for a First Round matchup with the Maccabees. Mount Saint Mary features three players scoring in double-figures, led by senior
Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) who is good for 12.7 points per game while shooting 39.6-percent from the floor and has made a team-high 49 three-pointers. Classmate
Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) is shooting just over 43-percent overall on the season and is scoring 11.5 points per game, while
Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) is good for just under 12 points per night, shooting 45.3-percent from the floor.
Wolff paces the Knights on the backboards with 5.7 caroms per outing, while McDine is handing out nearly four assists per contest. Sophomore
Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) is averaging better than a steal per game and is good for 5.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
Winners of five straight, the Knights completed their first winning regular season since 2013-14 when they earned the second seed in the Skyline Conference Championship, advancing to the Championship Final.
Scouting Yeshiva: The Maccabees have won nine of their last 10 outings heading into Tuesday, with the lone loss coming in double overtime at regular season champion Farmingdale State on February 13. Bar Alluf led three players in double-figures against the Rams with 27 points.
Yeshiva rebounded with an 86-75 win over Purchase in the regular season finale, shooting nearly 51-percent for the game. Alluf led three players with at least 20 points in the game with 23, going 9-for-16 from the floor.
The Maccabees enter the conference championship leading the league in scoring with 77 points per game and are second in the conference in scoring margin (4.6.). Simcha Halpert leads the conference in scoring 21.2 points per night, with Alluf ranking second with 18. Points per game.
Regular Season Series: The Knights and Maccabees split the regular season series during the 2017-18 season, with each team winning on its home floor. The Knights picked up a 74-69 win in Newburgh on November 30, with the Macs scoring an 82-66 victory in New York on January 30.
In the November victory, the Knights shot 51-percent with Nocera producing 20 points, including the 1,000
th of his career. Wolff scored 12 points and hauled in seven rebounds for the Knights, while McDine closed the evening with 10 points and six assists.
Yeshiva earned its victory shooting 53.7-percent on its home floor and showed four players in double-figures. Gabriel Leifer led the way with 23 points with Alluf adding 19, Tal Gweta chipping in with 14 and Halpert adding 12. The Yeshiva starting five combined for 75 of the team's 82 points and 10 of the team's 11 three-pointers.
Skyline Conference Championship History: The Knights are making their first appearance in the Skyline Conference Championship since advancing to the final during the 2013-14 season. Since the 2003-04 season, Mount Saint Mary has appeared in the conference championship tournament 10 times, including Tuesday's contest, including a five year run from 2003-04 through 2007-08.
What's At Stake: A berth in the semifinal round and a trip to regular season champion and top-seed Farmingdale State on Thursday awaits the winner of Tuesday's contest. The top-seeded Rams are a combined 4-0 against Mount Saint Mary and Yeshiva.
