Knights Continue Long Road Swing At York, Trinity

MSMC closes 11 match road swing this week

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team finishes off a long 11 match road swing this week with a road tilt at York on Tuesday and a non-conference tri-match at Trinity in Hartford, Conn. On Saturday. Tuesday's match is set for 7:00 p.m. with the weekend matches beginning at noon.
 
At A Glance: The Knights have dropped their last six contests, including all four tilts at last weekend's Ramapo Invitational. The Mount's last win came on September 8 when it topped Southern Vermont 3-0 at the New Paltz Hawks Invitational. Nicole Spinelli (Wantagh, N.Y.) put away a career-high 12 kills and hit .688 for the Knights in the victory.
 
Through 13 matches, Madelyn Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) and Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) are tied for the team lead in kills with 71 with Spinelli sitting third in kills with 69 and second in service aces with 20. Burke paces the team in total blocks with 16.
 
Senior Julimar Figueroa (Dorado, Puerto Rico) leads the Knights in aces with 21 and digs with 152, while junior Kim Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) has handed out a team-high 208 assists, good for just over seven helpers per set.
 
Last Time Out: The Mount dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to close out the Ramapo Invitational, falling to FDU-Florham and the host Roadrunners. Figueroa led the Mount with 19 digs against the Devils and joined Chelsea Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) with a team-high 11 digs against Ramapo.
 
Scouting York: The Cardinals enter Tuesday's match at 0-6 and the team has yet to win a set on the young season. York most recently dropped straight set decisions to the City College of New York and Hunter on Saturday, hitting -.178 against Hunter and -.014 against CCNY.
 
Previewing Trinity: The Bantams enter a NESCAC tilt at Amherst on Friday at 3-3 overall and are coming off a four set league loss to Middlebury on Saturday. Rachel Underwood and Colette Scheffers led the offensive attack with 13 kills apiece with Rebecca Chu handing out 42 assists.
 
Scheffers leads the way in kills for Trinity with 86 on the season, good for nearly four kills per set, while Jessica Yang has handed out a team-high 175 assists, good for nearly 10 helpers per frame. Grace Metry and Ali Odermann are both tied for the team-lead in digs with 73.
 
A Peak At Maine Maritime: The Mariners stand at 7-5 overall on the season heading into a home match with Unity on Wednesday. Maine Maritime has won each of its last four contests, including all three during the Eighth Annual Maritime Classic.
 
The Mariners show a pair of players with better than 100 kills on the season, led by Alexa Cacacie who has put away 129 winners to go along with a team-high 24 total blocks. Jessica D'Auria is second on the team in kills with 123 and leads the way in service aces with 28.
 
Syndney Adams is tops on the squad in assists with 372, handing out nearly eight assists per set, while Maria Perez paces the unit with 190 digs, better than four per set.
 
What's Next: The Knights return home to play just their second home match of the season on September 26. The Knights begin conference play against 2016 league champion Farmingdale State starting at 7:00 p.m.
