The Knights looked to get revenge in their Skyline Conference Playoffs Opening Round rematch from last year against the Golden Eagles. All-Conference First Team recipient
Julianna Simone got the scoring going for Mount Saint Mary in a tight first set. Neither team led by more than 3 points during the entirety of the set. Down 10-8, a 6-1 run from the Knights put them ahead 13-11 after 2 kills a piece from Simone and
Jonaiya Williams. St. Joseph's tied things up late in the set 21-21 before scoring 4 of the last 5 points to take the first set.
The Mount took an early 4-2 lead, but the Golden Eagles responded with a run to go up 11-7.
Nicolette Pirro came up big for the Knights, getting a kill followed by a service run that helped them take back the lead 13-12. It was evident this set was also coming down to the last point, as you could feel the playoff atmosphere in the gym. Mount Saint Mary trailed 23-20, but with the set on the line, they came up big, going on a 6-1 run to win the second set 26-24 and tie the match up 1-1.
In a pivotal third set, St. Joe's jumped out to an early 7-3 lead. With runs hard to come by, the Golden Eagles were able to hold on to a comfortable lead for a majority of the set. The Knights slowly chipped away at the Long Island lead, with
Julianna Simone securing 4 straight kills for the Mount. A 6-1 run for Mount Saint Mary put them right back into the set, but unfortunately, they were unable to complete the comeback as St. Joe's took the set 25-20.
Long Island jumped out to another early lead to start the fourth set, but it wouldn't be long before an
Erin Lema 6-0 service run put the Mount out in front 13-11. The Golden Eagles attempted to regroup with a timeout, though the Knights still managed to hold the lead. Long Island was able to take back the lead 21-19 late in the set with a 6-1 run. The Knights did not give up, tying the set up 24-24 with St. Joe's at set point. The Golden Eagles were able to score the next 2 points to come away with a victory and advance to the next round.
