Knights Head To Sage For Semifinal Matchup With The Gators

Knights and Gators set to square-off at 1:00 p.m.

Newburgh, N.Y. – Looking to make its sixth straight trip to the Skyline Conference Tournament title game, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team will travel to second seeded Sage on Wednesday afternoon for a semifinal matchup with the Gators. For those who cannot attend the game, Live Stats and Video will be available.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary heads into Wednesday's contest at 14-6-1 after topping Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday 4-0 in the opening round of the conference tournament. The Knights have won six of their last seven outings heading into the semifinal contest, with the lone loss coming on the road at #5 William Smith.
 
Senior Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.) leads the offensive attack for the Knights with 11 goals and 24 points, while classmate Melissa Maini (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and freshman Jacqueline Davis (Islip Terrance, N.Y.) are tied for second on the team with five goals and 14 points apiece.
 
Freshman Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) has potted five goals for the Mount through Saturday's tilt and is tied with Guillemette for the team lead in game winning goals with three. Junior Alaina Neddermann (Prospect, Conn.) leads the team with eight assists and sophomore Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) has totaled nine points on a goal and seven helpers.
 
Sophomore Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) has played every team minute in goal for Mount Saint Mary in 2015, a total of 1,890:01. She holds a 0.95 goals against average and a .792 save percentage for the Knights and on Saturday against Mount Saint Vincent set the single season record for shutouts with 11 and the career mark with 20.
 
Head Coach:  In her second year at the helm of the Women's Soccer program at Mount Saint Mary, BreLynn Nasypany has posted a 28-11-2 overall record and a stellar 16-1-1 mark against league rivals. In her first season in Newburgh, Nasypany guided the Knights back to the Skyline Conference title game for the fifth straight season and in 2015 has Mount Saint Mary back in the conference tournament for the ninth consecutive year.
 
Nasypany was tabbed the 2015 Skyline Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Knights to a share of the regular season crown for the second time in her career with the Mount. 
 
Nasypany took over the program in Newburgh after serving as an assistant coach at William Smith in 2013. The Herons won the 2013 National Title, with the coaching staff earning Division III and Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
 
At standout player at William Smith, Nasypany was named First Team All-Liberty League four times and the Liberty League Rookie of the Year in 2007. Nasypany went on to be named the league's Player of the Year in 2008 and was made a NSCAA First Team All-American selection in both 2008 and 2010.
 
A Look At Sage: The Gators finished the regular season as one of three teams in the conference with a single loss, earning the second seed through the conference's tiebreaker protocol. After an opening round bye, the Gators enter Wednesday's game at 14-4 overall. Sage handed Mount Saint Mary its only conference blemish of the season, downing the Knights 1-0 in Newburgh on October 7.
 
The Gators show eight players with at least 10 points on the season, led by 2015 Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year Samantha Trimblett. She paces Sage with 31 points on 11 goals and nine assists. Taylor Lynch has also turned in a standout season in 2015, registering 22 points to date on nine markers and four assists on her way to being named Second Team All-League.
 
Nicole Maher has put together a season that saw her named First Team All-Conference, posting 13 wins in goal with an .882 save percentage. Maher also has 16 points for the Gators, scoring six times and helping on four other goals.  
 
As a team, Sage outscored its opponents 60-13 during the regular season and holds a 168-33 edge on its rivals in points.
 
Skyline Conference Honors: On Monday, the Skyline Conference announced its 2015 All-League selections, with six Knights earning recognition. Guillemette, Maini and Ribadeneyra landed on the First Team and Nicole Cavallo, Bridget McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y.) and Riley earned Second Team honors.
 
In addition to being a First Team All-Conference pick, Ribadeneyra was tabbed the league's Defensive Player of the Year and Nasypany was voted the conference's Coach of the Year by her peers.
 
The 2015 Matchup: Sage handed Mount Saint Mary its only conference loss in 2015 and its first league loss since October 20, 2010 against Bard, a string of 38 league contests. Savannah Mason broke a scoreless tie in the 84th minute when she deflected in a free kick for the only goal of the game.
 
Mount Saint Mary outshot Sage 10-1 in the first half, hitting a post and a crossbar inside the first 20 minutes of the contest. The Knights finished the game with a slim 13-10 edge in shots overall but a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Mount Saint Mary posted a lopsided 12-2 edge in corner kicks in the game, including 9-1 before halftime.
 
Riley finished the game with a single save for the Knights, with Maher recording the shutout with six saves for the Gators.
 
The Series: Since the start of the 2004 season, the Knights and Gators have hooked up 15 times, with Mount Saint Mary holding a record of 8-6-1. The Gators went unbeaten in the first five meetings, with the Mount's first win coming in the 2008 Skyline Conference Tournament.
 
Until the 2015 loss, Mount Saint Mary had won the last six meetings and heading into Wednesday's semifinal, the Knights hold a 2-1 record over the Gators in the conference tournament. Most recently, the Knights topped Sage 6-0 in the semifinal round of the 2014 event.
 
The Skyline Conference Tournament: In addition to the Knights and Gators, top seeded Farmingdale State and St. Joseph's-L.I. will square-off in the other semifinal contest at Farmingdale State with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
 
What's Next: The winners of Wednesday's semifinal tilts will advance on to the championship round with the right to represent the Skyline Conference in the NCAA Tournament on the line.
