Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary looked to exorcise its demons against Farmingdale State in the Opening Round of the Skyline Conference Playoffs Saturday afternoon. Historically, the Knights were 0-11 in the playoffs coming into today's game against the Rams, with 10 of those losses coming in the Skyline Conference Championship game. Head Coach Joe Dolan was adamant that the Knights were not going to let Farmingdale get the better of them today, citing his undefeated record as a player against the Rams in the playoffs, including a double overtime Skyline Championship victory in 2019 in which he scored the game-winning goal.

The Mount came out determined, showing that they were not afraid from the opening whistle. Freshman All-Conference Second Team midfielder Kaitlyn Shotter certainly took Coach Dolan's words to heart, opening up the scoring in the 6th minute off an assist from Emma Mihale to take a 1-0 lead. The Knights were all over the Rams' side of the field in the first half, executing their game plan to a tee. Shotter would find the back of the net yet again in the 21st minute, this time off a pass from fellow All-Conference Second Team member Kaitlin Hansen to extend their lead. Playing with the wind, Mount Saint Mary continued to use that to their advantage on offense, creating multiple scoring chances. Checking in off the bench, sophomore Angelina Robinson made an immediate impact with a through ball to Kaitlyn Shotter, who nearly added to the Knights' lead.

Mount Saint Mary felt great coming out of the half up 2-0, but they knew the job was not done yet. The Knights did a great job holding Farmingdale's offense in check, led by goalkeeper Elizabeth Lennane, who played a fundamentally sound game in net. Although the Mount controlled the game, a set piece for the Rams led to a goal to get Farmingdale on the board in the 78th minute to make it 2-1 Knights. The momentum shifted, as the Rams now had hope of a comeback. In the final 10 minutes of play, the Knights' defense locked down, stopping all 5 shot attempts and 3 corner kick attempts from Farmingdale. Mount Saint Mary made program history, securing its first playoff win over the Rams with a 2-1 victory. The Knights now set up a Skyline Semifinal date with Mount Saint Vincent this Wednesday, November 5th, at 5:00 PM.
