OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team (11-4, 7-1 Skyline) erased a 12-point halftime deficit and held on late to take home a 70-69 Skyline Conference victory over SUNY College at Old Westbury (9-6, 5-3 Skyline) Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center.

Senior guard Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior forward Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) led the Knights' charge with big second halves. Stabach scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second frame, while Pisciotta banked 14 of his 20 points and nine of his 11 boards in the latter half.

The Knights marched out of the locker room to the tune of a 15-3 run, capped off by a trey by Stabach to knot things up at 43-43. The Panthers took the momentum back and jumped out to a six-point lead, but two more threes by Stabach quickly tied the game once again. The Knights began to take control of the game from this point on, but could not grab a lead larger than five points.

With the Knights up 70-65 in the final 40 seconds, a pair of free throws by Old Westbury's Mark Gjonlekaj cut the deficit to three points. The Panthers got the ball back with the chance to tie in the final six seconds. Ray Parker tossed up the potential tying three, but it did not fall. Floyd Leroy reacted quickly and tipped the ball back into the hoop, but the score left the Panthers down by a point with just two seconds on the clock, which proved to be too little for a final chance for the home team.

In addition to Pisciotta's double-double, senior forward Joe Henain (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) picked up one of his own, his eighth of the season, with 11 points and 10 boards. He also blocked a pair of shots in the game, improving his career total to 157, four shy of Kenny Lane's program record of 161.

Gjonlekaj led the Panthers with 22 points and eight rebounds on the afternoon. Ray Parker picked up 16 points, while Floyd Leroy added 12 of his own.

The Knights shot 40 percent (26-of-65) from the field in Saturday's win, including 10-of-27 (37 percent) from three-point range. They outscored their hosts in the paint, 30-22, and outrebounded the Panthers, 39-34.

The Mount returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 23, when they play host to Skyline Conference opponent Yeshiva University at the Kaplan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
