NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team (5-13) picked up a tri-match split on Saturday in the Kaplan Center. The Knights were swept, 3-0 (21-25, 15-25, 18-25), by Montclair State University (8-5) in the opening match of the day, but bounced back to shut out Lehman College (11-4), 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-15), to finish the day. Montclair State took a 3-1 victory over Lehman in the day's second contest.

Courtney Matlock led the Red Hawks in the first match with 10 kills, while Angela Campo dished out 27 assists. Freshman outside hitter Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) picked up a match high 11 kills, while sophomore libero Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) recorded 12 digs.

The Knights looked to rebound in their final match of the day against the Lightning from Lehman, and did so in grand fashion. The first set was tight until the end, with neither team jumping out to a lead greater than three points. After the set was tied at 17-17, the Knights ran away with an 8-5 stretch to take a 25-22 win.

The Mount dominated the next set, leading by nine points after a 7-0 run left the Knights up 18-9. A back and forth finish to the set saw the Mount take a 25-18 win. In the third set, the Knights took an early 6-5 lead and never looked back, taking the game, 25-15, to pick up the sweep.

After hitting just .057 in the match against Montclair State, the Knights finished with a .159 clip against Lehman. Freshman setter Claire Scully (Bloomfield, N.J.) handed out 20 assists, while Gries picked up another 16 digs. The Knights held the Lightning to a .000 hitting percentage in the match.

The Mount returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 2, when they travel to Yeshiva College to open up Skyline play. The match is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m.
