NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team got off to a hot start with a 3-0 sweep of Albertus Magnus.

Mount Saint Mary hosted Albertus Magnus College at home for its first match of the regular season. The Falcons would strike first with a 4-0 run to open up the game before a
Julianna Simone kill put the Knights on the board. The Mount slowly worked their way back in with help from freshman
Emily Baron, who dominated this game with 17 kills.
Sofia Fredericks did a great job spreading the ball around with 26 assists on the day. After being tied 13-13 in the first set, the Knights scored seven straight points as part of a 12-2 run to close out the first set 25-15.
The Mount looked to continue its momentum into the second set, but Albertus Magnus once again jumped out with an early lead, 6-3. The Knights flipped the script with a 9-0 run, including back-to-back kills from
Nicolette Pirro to take a 12-6 lead. Mount Saint Mary never looked back from here, winning the second set 25-16.
The Falcons would not go away easily, starting off the third set with an 8-1 lead. Another big run from the Knights allowed them to get ahead 10-9. From here, both teams would trade points before Albertus Magnus took a 20-16 lead, as they looked to avoid a sweep. The Knights locked in, and a service run from
Abigale Greenspan that included two aces gave the Mount a 22-20 lead. Mount Saint Mary would win the third set 25-22 and sweep the Falcons 3-0 in the match.
