Mount Saint Mary looked to stay undefeated on the season against The Pratt Institute on Saturday afternoon. After a quick point from the Cannoneers, the Knights would jump ahead.
Julianna Simone and
Emily Baron made their presence felt often in this match, combining for 25 kills. Back-to-back aces from
Nicolette Pirro helped give the Mount an 11-5 lead in the first set. The Knights continued to dominate, leading by as much as 10, but Pratt would not go away. They made things interesting late in the set; however, Mount Saint Mary would pull away with a 25-19 first-set victory.
The Knights jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back. Sophomore
Kaitlin Dillon held down the middle for the Mount, as they led 14-3 before a Cannoneers timeout.
Sofia Fredericks dished out 29 assists on the day, setting up the team to take a 23-8 lead in the second set. A
Nicolette Pirro kill ended the set for a 25-10 Knights win as they looked to complete back-to-back sweeps to start the year.
Mount Saint Mary trailed just once in the third set before taking a solid lead. The Knights' offense was just too much for the Cannoneers, and the Mount excelled defensively behind freshman libero
