Mount Drops Non-Conference Game to Rutgers-Newark

Box Score

NEWARK, N.J.- The Mount Saint Mary College Knights move to 3-2 with a tough loss, 4-1, against the Rutgers- Newark Raiders, who captured their seventh straight win and moved to 7-1 on the season.

The Raiders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead just 28:40 into the contest. Raider junior Patryk Dawidczyk solidified the win by collecting a loose ball in the Knights' zone and netting a shot from 25 yards out on the right side in the 87th minute of play.

Knight sophomore Michael Ennis (Carmel, N.Y.) prevented Raiders sophomore goalkeeper Matt Broomall from posting his third shutout of the season. Ennis and two Raider defenders collided around a ball just outside the middle of the 18, and Ennis was able to lob a shot into the center of the Rutgers-Newark goal in the 45th minute of play.

The Raiders dominated play, out-shooting the Knights, 19-6, and taking six corner kicks to the Knights' two.

Mount senior goalkeeper Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) kept the Knights in the match by making five saves in each half against an aggressive Raider attack.

The Knights return to play on Wednesday, September 18 when they travel to Vassar College for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
