The Mount Saint Mary Knights traveled to Purchase on Saturday to take on the Purchase College Panthers for their sixth conference game this season. The Knights, looking for their first win since September 23rd, would generate 14 shots in the first half, with five of them going on goal. Despite the Knights putting together a consistent offensive attack, the Mount would be kept out of the back of the net for the duration of the game. The Knights' defense was the star of the show in this one, allowing just three shots in the first half, with none of them going on goal. The game would head into halftime in a scoreless deadlock.
The second half would follow the exact same recipe as the first half, as the Knights were again unable to find the back of the net. The Mount took another nine shots in the second half, with four of them going on goal. The Knights' nine shots on goal on Saturday was good for their second-highest total this season; second to only a September 9th loss against SUNY Delhi where they mustered 10 shots. The Knights took 23 shots total, the most in any game this season. The Mount crushed its previous season-high, a mark of 18 on September 23rd in a win against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. The defense continued to excel, limiting the Panthers to four second-half shots, with just one of them on goal. Purchase's one shot on goal is a season-low for a Knights opponent. Three different Knights led the charge with two shots on goal: freshmen Isaac Vargas and Guilherme Martins, and sophomore Ethan Wallace. Knights freshman goalkeeper Landon Mabe made a save on the only shot on goal he saw. The affair between the Knights and the Panthers would end in a 0-0 tie.
The Knights, who have tied in three of their last four games, will look to get back into the win column on the road Tuesday, taking on Farmingdale State at 6:00 pm.
