The Mount Saint Mary Knights were at Kaplan Field on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins for their fourth conference game of the season. The Knights, riding a three-game unbeaten streak, would strike first early on an 11th-minute goal by freshman Guilherme Martins. The goal, Martins' second in as many games, was assisted by junior William Zelaya. The 1-0 lead would not last long, as the Dolphins would answer back just six minutes later. Dolphins junior Marti Senyer would score the equalizer in the 17th minute, kickstarting an onslaught that saw Mount Saint Vincent score three goals in a 24-minute window. The Dolphins would grab the lead four minutes later on a goal from freshman Daniel Figueroa, assisted by fellow freshman Cole Zent. The Dolphins would grab one more goal before the break after a 41st-minute breakthrough by junior Yahir Tafoya. The goal, assisted by the previous goal scorer Figueroa, put the Dolphins up 3-1 headed to halftime.
After a first half that saw the two teams combine for four goals, the second half would see neither team score a goal. The Knights, down two, would maintain a steady pressure on offense in the second half. The Knights put up nine second-half shots, compared to only three in the first half. Despite the two-goal deficit, the Knights would end up matching the Dolphins in total shots, tying at 12 apiece. The Dolphins held off the Knights' strong second half, and the visitors left Newburgh 3-1 winners. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent moves into third place in the Skyline, snapping the Knights' three game unbeaten streak in the process.
The Knights will look to get back into the win column on Tuesday, where they'll hit the road to take on Merchant Marine at 7:00 p.m.
