NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team (9-15, 4-2 Skyline) split their two matches in a Skyline Conference quad match at the Kaplan Center on Saturday.

The Knights dropped a heartbreaker in the first match of the day, falling 3-2 (12-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-13, 13-15) to Farmingdale State College (10-16, 6-0 Skyline). They bounced back in a big way in the final match of the afternoon, sweeping St. Joseph's College (L.I.) (11-9, 3-2 Skyline), 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-13), to close out the day.

The Mount found itself in a 2-0 hole against Farmingdale Saturday morning before battling back. The Knights played a magnificent two sets, holding the Rams to just 15 and 13 points, respectively, to force a fifth set. Both teams went back and forth in the final frame, but the Rams came out on top after taking the final two points after a 13-13 tie to come out victorious. Farmingdale went on to defeat the College of Mount Saint Vincent (4-15, 3-3 Skyline), 3-1, in the day's second matchup.

The Rams were led by Sarah Palladino, who threw down 23 kills in the match. Megan Pisciotta dished out 35 assists, while Samantha Morra led the team with 13 digs.

Freshman setter Claire Scully (Bloomfield, N.J.) had another impressive match, picking up a match-high 38 assists. Freshman outside hitter Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) matched her season-high with 17 kills.

Both teams matched up well in the end, with the Rams taking a slight edge over the Knights with a .252 hitting percentage compared to .240.

St. Joseph's also defeated Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, taking a 3-1 decision before taking on the Knights. The Knights looked like a different team in their second match, overpowering the Golden Eagles in each set. Sabatini added another 14 kills to her day, while Scully dished out another 29 assists. Sophomore middle blocker Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) was responsible for multiple scoring runs for the Knights in the match, helping the cause with eight services aces without a serving error.

The Knights improved upon their morning contest by hitting .260 later in the day. The Golden Eagles played a fairly clean match as well, hitting .176.

The Mount returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they travel to William Paterson University for a non-conference tri-match. The Knights will take on Brooklyn College at 1 p.m. before taking on William Paterson at 3 p.m.
