NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Behind two second half goals the Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Farmingdale State College on Saturday afternoon. The Knights improve to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in Skyline play, while the Rams move to 5-7-1 on the year and 3-2 in conference play.

It took the opening 15 minutes of play for both teams to shake off a sluggish start and in the 16th minute the Knights nearly took the lead, as junior Sean Barton's (Wallkill, N.Y.) shot was deflected over the crossbar by Farmingdale goalkeeper senior Ricky Meshkow (Plainview, N.Y.). With 30 minutes elapsed in the game, Mount junior Brandon Mincher (Bayport, N.Y.) moved the ball ahead to freshman Alex Tolman (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), who then one touched the ball into the back of the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Following a string of fouls in the second half, the Mount capitalized on a free kick opportunity to move ahead by two. A wall of Farmingdale defenders turned away a shot by senior Matt Pagano (Mahopac, N.Y.), but Barton collected and finished the rebound to make it 2-0 in the Knights' favor. The Rams responded just two minutes later with their first of the day, as sophomore Jason Bohman (West Islip, N.Y.) netted a cross from junior Joe Lipsky (Plainview, N.Y.).

The Rams increased the offensive pressure in the second half, but the Mount backline led by junior Rob Thompson (West Babylon, N.Y.) was up to the test. In the 85th minute Tolman dribbled down the left side of the field and across the endline towards the goal. Tolman dished the ball off to the center of the box and senior Drew Altieri (Voorheesville, N.Y.) placed the ball into the back of the net to give the Knights an insurance goal.

Mount goalkeeper junior Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) made four saves to preserve the win and Meschkow recorded seven saves.

The Knights return to action on Wednesday October 10, as they travel to Maritime College for a Skyline Conference contest. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
