Rob Thompson (West Babylon, N.Y.) picked a critical time to score his first goal of the year, as Thompson's goal proved to be the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Maritime College on Wednesday night. The Mount advances to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in the Skyline, while the Privateers slip to 6-8-1 on the year and 2-4 in conference play.
In the opening three minutes of play the Knights ripped two shots on goal, as they set the tone for the half. With 39 minutes elapsed in the game, a Maritime foul led to an indirect kick opportunity for the Mount. Mount senior
Matt Pagano (Mahopac, N.Y.) played the restart in from the right side to Thompson, who kicked the ball just inside the left post and into the back of the net.
After being outshot 12-1 in the first half, the Privateers managed to hold a 7-6 advantage in shots during the second. Mount junior goalkeeper
Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) was up to the test, picking up all four of his saves during the second stanza. Maritime keeper freshman Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y.) finished with eight saves.
The Mount looks to earn another Skyline Conference victory on Saturday, October 13, as they travel to Purchase College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
