Jamaica, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College swimming teams opened their 2011-2012 campaign with a splash, as the Knights defeated York College. The men's team earned a 77-68 victory, while the women's team captured an 97-80 win.
On the men's side, senior
Enrique Naudy (Monroe, N.Y.) and freshman
Justin Davis (Greenlawn, N.Y.) were both double winners. Naudy took home the 800 freestyle (9:57.26) and the 100 backstroke (1:30.57) in addition to placing second in the 200 individual medley (2:42.93). Davis was victorious in the 200 freestyle (2:09.45) and the 100 butterfly (1:10.32).
Sophomore
Conor Dowd (Massapequa, N.Y.) edged Naudy in the 200 individual medley, taking first place with a time of 2:28.38. Freshman
Ryan Murray (Long Beach, N.Y.) took the 400 freestyle (6:29.17) and placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:25.44) and the 100 butterfly (1:18.35).
For the women, junior
Megan Pierce (Moriches, N.Y.) was the lone double winner. Pierce snagged victories in the 200 freestyle (2:37.38) and the 400 freestyle (6:22.80). The Knights had four other individual event winners, including
Rachel Johnson () who edged the field in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.57. Junior
Brianna Perazella (Chesire, Conn.) took the 800 freestyle (10:45.33), sophomore
Alissa Keyes (Trumbull, Conn.) won the 100 butterfly (1:23.70) , and sophomore
Alli Turnbach (Brick, N.J.) posted a first-place time of 2:51.58 in the 200 individual medley.
The Knights will host SUNY Maritime and St. Joseph's College for the MSMC Invitational. The Invitational is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday November 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.
