PURCHASE, N.Y. — Mount Saint Mary College men's swimming took home second place this weekend at the Skyline Conference Championship, racking up 224 total points. The Knights fell to the United States Merchant Marine Academy who earned 1,065 points, but pushed past St. Joseph's College Long Island (205), SUNY Maritime College (117) and SUNY Purchase College (75).
"The men worked together and showed what a small, united team can do," said Head Coach Chris Mance.
Day One Recap
Edward Mills, Jackson Lerner, Kyle Giuliano and Michael D'Ambrosio started the meet with a second-place swim in the 200-yard freestyle relay, coming in at 1:39.32. More relay points came rolling in with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay when Mills, D'Ambrosio, Lerner and Giuliano earned a time of 1:54.49. The team also scored second place in the 400-yard medley (4:16.08) later that afternoon.
Giuliano scored points in seventh place for the 500-yard freestyle, hitting the wall at 5:41.53. Mills also scored, coming in right behind Giuliano in eighth (5:41.84). Giuliano scored in seventh for the 400-yard individual medley (5:13.92) as well.
D'Ambrosio earned points for the Knights in the 200-yard individual medley, swimming to sixth with a time of 2:18.10. He scored in fifth for the 400-yard individual medley as well (5:08.05).
Lerner grabbed points in the 50-yard freestyle, earning ninth with a time of 24.40. Later, he earned eighth in the 400-yard individual medley (5:17.91).
Day Two Recap
D'Ambrosio picked up fourth place in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.09) and fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:40.38).
Lerner swam to fifth in his 200-yard backstroke at a 2:29.52 and sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:23.80).
Giuliano scored in sixth for the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:34.47) and seventh in his 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:30.99.
Mills earned seventh-place points in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:52.19) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:31.18).
Mills, Lerner, Giuliano and D'Ambrosio closed out Skylines with another second-place swim together in the 400-yard freestyle relay, coming in at 3:42.41.
The Knights will have a few more weeks of work to do as they prepare for their final competition this season at the Metropolitan Conference Championship, held at Rutgers University on February 14-16.
