NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College sophomore
Brandon Mincher (Bayport, N.Y.) scored the lone goal as the Knights defeated John Jay College by a score of 1-0 in non-conference action on Thursday evening. The Mount improved to 6-8-1 with the victory.
Mincher found the back of the net in the 41st minute, putting home a rebound for a 1-0 lead that the Knights would not relinquish. A shot from junior
Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.) was saved back into the middle of the box and Mincher made no mistake with the follow-up attempt.
From there, the Knights settled in and limited the Bloodhounds to just two shots on goal in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper
Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) made both saves and finished with four for the contest to earn his sixth shutout of the year. Junior
Sean Barton (Wallkill, N.Y.) played a strong second half, pestering the John Jay defenders and limiting any forward movement for the Bloodhounds.
The Knights also received a strong performance from senior
Matt Glaviano (Carmel, N.Y.), who appeared in his final home game at the Mount. Glaviano was honored at half time.
Mount Saint Mary travels to Farmingdale for a crucial Skyline Conference game on Saturday. For the Knights to retain any chance of qualifying for the conference tournament, they must defeat the Rams. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Farmingdale.
