BRONX, NY – After watching a two-goal lead suddenly disappear in the second half, Mount Saint Mary junior
Ian Peo (Levittown, N.Y.) scored an eventual game-winning goal in the 78th minute to propel the Blue Knights to a 3-2 victory over Maritime College. The Mount improved to 3-5 overall and to 2-0 inside the Skyline Conference while the Privateers dropped to 3-4-1 overall and to 0-1 in the conference.
Leading 2-0 at the half, the Mount seemed to cede all momentum to the Privateers, eventually allowing two goals in a span of less than three minutes. John Blunden (Arlington, Va.) scored off an assist from Emilio Andino (Roselle, N.J.) from nearly 30 yards out. Blunden's shot looked as if it were going wide right, but took a sharp turn and sailed to the top right corner. Only three minutes later, Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored off a header from Arthur Melody (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) to tie the game at 2.
Not wanting to let the game slip away, the Blue Knights found a way to rally. Senior
Nick Morse (New Milford, Conn.) hit Peo in stride in the 78th minute and Peo was in all alone with the keeper. He found the back of the net for a 3-2 lead and the Blue Knights were able to hold on down the stretch for an important conference victory.
Morse was involved in all three goals for the Blue Knights. With his team dominating the first half, Morse found junior
John Como (Wingdale, N.Y.) in the 27th minute for the first goal of the game. Morse then added on a goal of his own in the 30th minute to make the score 2-0. Mount Saint Mary limited Maritime to just three shots in the first half.
Junior
Paul Aries (Nashua, N.H.) made three saves to earn the victory for the Blue Knights.
After a week off, Mount Saint Mary will host Farmingdale State College on Saturday, October 4. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
