NEWBURGH, NY – After losing back-to-back five set matches last week, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team finally prevailed in five sets, defeating Centenary College on Tuesday night. The Blue Knights improved to 8-14 overall while the Cyclones fell to 8-19.
The Mount won sets one and three (19, 20) but the Cyclones responded with wins in sets two and four (23, 22). Centenary jumped out to a three point lead in the deciding set, but the Blue Knights rallied to win the final frame, 15-11.
Freshman
Courtney Kenney (Hicksville, N.Y.) had a team-high 17 kills along with 14 digs. Freshman
Teresa Sorrentino (Bellerose, N.Y.) and sophomore
Liz Douress (Rahway, N.J.) each had 8 kills. Senior
Amanda Perry (Norwich, N.Y.) led the team with 17 digs and Sorrentino contributed 15 digs.
Freshman Devon Paffendorf (Hackettstown, N.J.) recorded a match-high 19 kills for the Cyclones and sophomore Kelley Zegarowitz (Bayonne, N.Y.) chipped in 17 kills. Freshman Kelsey Walter (Hackettstown, N.J.) had a team-high 17 digs.
The Blue Knights take a road trip to William Paterson on Thursday for their next match. The non-conference tilt is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
