Men’s Lacrosse Travels To Local Foe Vassar

Knights look for second straight win

Newburgh, N.Y. – Coming off a thrilling come-from-behind overtime victory against Marywood in its home opener, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team returns to action Wednesday evening on the road at Vassar. At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary evened its overall record at 1-1 on February 28 with a 10-9 come-from-behind victory win over Marywood in its home opener. After trailing 6-0 in the early going, the Knights outscored the Pacers 6-2 after halftime to secure the win. Junior Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) closed out a six point game with the deciding goal a minute into the extra period.
 
Through the first two games of the season, De Meo leads the Mount in assists with nine and points with 13. He has added four goals, including the game winner against Marywood, and has collected five groundballs and caused a pair of turnovers.
 
Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) and Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) are tied for the team lead in goals with six apiece and are tied for second on the team in points with six. Nicholas Graziano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) has potted four goals through two games and is coming off a three goal effort against the Pacers.
 
Michael Capetola (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) is tied for the team lead with five groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers, with Sean Jennings (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) adding five groundballs and one caused turnover.
 
In goal, junior Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) has played 113 of a possible 121 minutes for the Knights and has stopped 26 opponent shots. He holds a .500 save percentage and is tied for the team lead in groundballs with five.
 
Among the conference leaders, Mount Saint Mary enters Wednesday's tilt ranked second in goals per game (12.5) and third in both assists per game (6.0) and points per game (18.5). Individually, Earle and Kugler are tied for third in the league in goals per game (3.0), while De Meo paces the Skyline Conference in assists per contest (4.5) and points per outing (6.5). Doerr sits atop the league leaderboard for the Knights in saves per game (13.0).
 
Scouting Vassar: The Brewers head into Wednesday unblemished in three outings and are coming off an 8-3 victory over Swarthmore on March 4. Vassar got two goals and three points from James Thomas in the win, with Liam Moriarty assisting on four goals. Erik Mikelinich picked up the win in goal for the Brewers with six stops.
 
Sam Houston-Read leads Vassar's offensive attack with five goals and 10 points, while Moriarty has assisted on a team best six goals. Matthew Lowrey holds the team lead in groundballs with 21 and has gone 32-for-42 in face-offs for the Brewers.

In goal, Mikelinich and Matt Boyd have each played 90 minutes for Vassar and made nine saves. Boyd leads the way with a .643 save percentage and a 3.33 goals against average.
 
As a team, Vassar is averaging 8.0 goals per game while surrendering just 3.67. The Brewers have a team face-off winning percentage of 76.1 and have scooped 34 more groundballs than their opponents.
 
Recent History: The two teams have met in each of the last four seasons with Vassar holding a 3-1 record in the all-time series. The Brewers won a 13-6 decision last season at Kaplan Field, with the Mount's lone win over Vassar coming on March 26, 2014 in a 10-9 home victory.
 
What's Next: Following Wednesday's short road trip, the Knights will travel to Gwynedd Valley, Pa. for a non-conference contest at Gwynedd Mercy. Face-off with the Griffins is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
