Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team plays the second game of a six game home stand and returns to conference action on Saturday afternoon against St. Joseph's-L.I. Face-off with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. with Live Stats available for those who cannot attend the game.
At A Glance: The Knights are coming off a hard fought 13-11 home loss to Johnson and Wales on Wednesday that dropped them to 2-4 overall on the season. Four Knights scored two goals in the game, with junior
Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) leading the way with six points.
Michael Capetola (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) led the team with five groundballs and
Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) finished up with 10 saves.
Through six games in 2017, De Meo and
Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) are tied for the team lead in goals with 14 with De Meo leading the way with 22 assists and 36 points.
Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) has contributed 13 goals and 16 points, with
Nicholas Graziano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) chipping in with 10 goals.
Capetola is tops on the team with 23 groundballs and has added three caused turnovers with De Meo and
Peter Beidl (Clifton Park, N.Y.) tied for the team lead in forced miscues with eight.
Joseph Timmons (Staten Island, N.Y.) has won 42 face-offs to lead Mount Saint Mary.
On the Skyline Conference leaderboard, De Meo leads the league in assists per game (3.7) and points per game (6.0). Beidl and De meo are tied for ninth in caused turnovers per game (1.3) with Timmons sitting 10
th in face-off win percentage (.412). Doerr paces the conference's goalies with 12.7 stops per outing for the Knights.
Scouting St. Joseph's: The Golden Eagles are 3-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play to begin their first varsity season. St. Joseph's has won two of its last three outings, with the one blemish coming in a 19-7 loss to Stockton on March 17. Josh Shaw scored three times to lead of the offense and Andrew Yoli made 20 saves in goal to go along with a groundball.
Through the program's first five games, Scott Reece has scored a team-high 16 goals and produced 20 points, with Casey Hickey netting 14 goals and assisting on five more. Shaw is tied for the team lead in points with 20 and paces the Golden Eagles with 12 assists.
Declan Canevari has won 74 of the 117 face-offs he's taken this season and leads the team with 43 groundballs. James Conroy has caused nine turnovers to go along with 12 groundballs. Yoli has played all but eight minutes in the cage through five games, making 38 saves.
Reece sits third in the Skyline Conference in goals per game (3.2) with Shaw sitting second in assists per game (2.4). Reece, Shaw and Hickey all rank inside the top-10 in the conference in points per game. Canevari is second in the league in groundballs per game (8.6) and sits fourth in face-off percentage (.632).
Recent History: Saturday's meeting will be the first between the two programs.
