Knights Open Six Game Home Stand Wednesday Against Johnson And Wales

Knights to play second home game of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team opens a season-long six game home stand on Wednesday evening when it welcomes Johnson and Wales to Kaplan Field. Face-off with the Wildcats is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with Live Stats available for those who are unable to attend the game.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary had alternated losses and wins over the first five games of the season and enters Wednesday's game at 2-3 overall following a 16-11 road loss at league rival Farmingdale State Saturday afternoon. Junior Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) totaled six points on three goals and three assists to go along with six groundballs and four caused turnovers.
 
Michael Capetola (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) led the Mount with seven groundballs in the game and freshman Marco Spagnuolo (Staten Island, N.Y.) won nine face-offs. Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) finished the day with 11 saves in goal for the Knights.
 
Through five games, Mount Saint Mary features a trio of players with 12 goals, with Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) and Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) joining De Meo atop the team leaderboard. De Meo paces the Knights with 18 assists and 30 points and is second on the team with 13 groundballs.
 
Capetola leads the team in groundballs heading into Wednesday with 18 and sophomore Peter Beidl (Clifton Park, N.Y.) anchors the defense with seven caused turnovers and 10 groundballs.
 
Doerr has played 283:09 of a possible 301:33 in the cage for the Knights and is sporting a .504 save percentage to go along with 66 stops. He has scooped nine groundballs on the season and holds a 13.77 goals against average.
 
In the Skyline Conference, the Knights lead the league in man-up goals with nine. Individually, De Meo paces the conference in assists per game (3.6) and points per game (6.0) and Doerr ranks first in saves per contest (13.2).
 
Scouting The Wildcats: Johnson and Wales heads to Newburgh with a 3-2 overall record and is coming off a tight 13-11 loss to New England College on Saturday. Max Stone led the offensive attack with five goals in the game with Hunter Guzzo winning 16 face-offs and scooping 10 groundballs. Bradley Morris made 14 stops in goal for the Wildcats in the loss.
 
Through five contests, Johnson and Wales is led by 14 goals from Stone, while Eric Russo paces the team in assists with 12 and points with 24. Guzzo has won 28 of the 48 face-offs he has taken on the season and leads the team with 14 groundballs.
 
Morris and Griffin Boyle have split time in goal, with Morris playing 210:00 minutes and and Boyle playing 90:00. Morris has made 56 saves and holds a .583 save percentage, while Boyle has stopped 14 shots and earned one of the team's three wins.
 
Recent History: The two teams have met just once prior to Wednesday, with the Mount scoring a 15-9 road win last season. Earle and De Meo each finished with five points and Doerr made eight saves in the win for the Knights.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary will return to conference play on Saturday when it plays host to league newcomer St. Joseph's-L.I. in the first ever meeting between the two programs. Face-off with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
