Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team will play its first two home games of the season this weekend when it hosts Albertus Magnus on Saturday and Baruch on Sunday. Both games are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
At A Glance: The Knights enter the weekend at 0-3 after dropping a three game set at St. Mary's College of Maryland last weekend. After falling 10-2 in the series opener, the Mount suffered a pair of one run loses to close out the weekend against the Seahawks.
Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished the weekend 3-for-7 with a home run, four walks, two runs scored and three RBI, while
John Santana (Walkill, N.Y.) and
Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) both finished with four hits. Each player scored a pair of runs, with Rizzo swiping three bags on the weekend.
In addition to his production at the plate, Santana made his first collegiate appearance on the mound, working 4.2 innings in a start, allowing two earned runs and striking out four.
Stephan Sookdeo (Carmel, N.Y.) worked 3.0 relief innings and
Christian Spano (Mahopac, N.Y.) made a pair of scoreless appearances covering 1.1 innings.
At Look At The Falcons: Albertus Magnus plays its 2017 opener on Saturday and is coming off a 2016 season that saw it go 13-21 and 6-8 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, good for the fifth seed in the conference championship tournament. The Falcons return 15 players from the 2016 squad and feature 17 newcomers to the program in 2017.
Last Season: The two teams met twice last season with the Mount posting a 4-2 win on March 5 at Dutchess Stadium and a 12-1 triumph in New Haven, Conn. In the home win, the Mount used a three run eighth to overcome a 2-1 deficit and in the road triumph used a six run first inning and cruised to the non-conference win.
Scouting Baruch: The Bearcats begin their 2017 season Saturday with a doubleheader at Old Westbury after posting a 14-18 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the CUNYAC a season ago. Jasdeep Buttar returns after hitting .378 with 26 runs scored in 2016, while Cameron Kitt looks to anchor the pitching staff after going 4-2 as a junior with 51 strikeouts and a 3.14 earned run average.
Last Season: Baruch swept an early season set from the Knights, posting 5-4 and 11-6 wins on February 28.
Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) tripled and drove in a pair of runs in game two for the Mount.
What's Next: Saturday's game with Albertus Magnus begins a four date home stand that continues with Baruch on Sunday, Brockport on March 3 and a doubleheader with New Paltz on March 4.
