Newburgh, N.Y. – Winners of three straight contests, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team looks to extend its run with three upcoming road tilts. The Knights travel to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Friday night before heading to Florida for a pair of games in the HoopMIA Division III Holiday Shootout December 18 and 19.
At A Glance: After starting the season 0-3, the Mount Men have reeled off three straight victories to move to the .500 mark overall and to 3-1 in Skyline Conference action. After dropping a 69-66 decision to Purchase at the buzzer on November 28, the Knights have ripped off league wins against Yeshiva, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and most recently Old Westbury.
The Knights feature four players scoring in double-figures through six games, with
Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) leading the way with 16.0 points per game. Fellow senior
Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) is checking in with 14.5 points per outing with
Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) and
Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) supporting the offensive attack with 12.8 points and 10.5 points per night, respectively.
Wolff also paces the Knights on the backboards with nearly six caroms per night, with Nocera and Conner Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) each collecting better than five rebounds per contest. McDine is good for better than three assists per game, while Bacci leads the team in steals with eight and is handing out nearly three assists per game.
The Knights are averaging better than 75 points per game through six tilts and are outscoring opponents by nearly six points per game. Mount Saint Mary is shooting 46.2-percent as a team and nearly 40-percent from three-point range to go along with 19.3 points per game off of turnovers.
Last Time Out: The Mount picked up its third straight win with a convincing 81-63 home win over Old Westbury on December 10. The Knights shot 51.9-percent from the floor overall and nearly 46-percent from three-point range in the victory. Nocera led the attack with 19 points with Wolff canning five triples on his way to 17 points. Francis came off the bench to notch 15 points, while
Andrew Holmes (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and McDine each chipping in 10 points.
A Look At The Dolphins: Mount Saint Vincent enters Friday's tilt at 3-4 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Dolphins have won two of their last three outings, but are coming off a 74-72 triple overtime loss to USMMA on Sunday.
Ammad Alkhulaidi paces the Mount Saint Vincent scoring attack with 14.0 points per game with Raiquis Harris good for 11.6 points per outing. Alkhulaidi also leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game and is tops on the team with 2.6 helpers per outing.
As a unit, the Dolphins are scoring 73.4 points per game and are shooting nearly 43-percent from the field. Mount Saint Vincent is outrebounding its opponents by nearly five per game and are scoring better than 17 points off of turnovers.
Scouting Chapman: The Knights will tussle with a 6-1 Chapman team that suffered its first loss of the season, a 72-67 decision to UC Santa Cruz, on December 8. The Panthers opened the season with six straight wins, scoring at least 82 points in the first four wins of the season.
Chapman, located in Orange, Calif., is led by 14.0 points on 48.1-percent shooting from Rob Nelsen with Reed Smith and Reed Nakakihara chipping in with 12.0 and 11.1 points per game. Nelsen leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game, while Luke Selway is handing out 3.1 assists per contest.
The Panthers are scoring better than 77 points per game through seven contests, shooting 47.9-percent overall and 37.8-percent from three-point range. Chapman is making nearly nine triples per contest and is allowing just 66.4 points per contest.
Previewing Widener: The Pride stand at 3-5 overall heading into a Saturday showdown with Immaculata, dropping four of their last five overall. Widener fell 74-63 to #12 Lycoming in its last outing, its third loss in four Commonwealth contests.
The Pride is led by 19.0 points per game from Tyler Drews who is shooting 46.5-percent from the floor. Elijah Boyd is good for 13.0 points per night and Widener features five players averaging at least 9.0 points per game.
Boyd is one of five players to average at least five rebounds per game, with 5.6 per outing, with Ryan McMahon good for better than five assists per night.
The Pride averaged 74.3 points per game and is shooting 44.2-percent from the field overall and 32.6-percent from three-point range.
