Bronxville, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College sophomore
Robert Kohlus (Wading River, N.Y.) scored a pair of wins on Saturday in a 109-51 Skyline Conference road win at Sarah Lawrence. Kohlus' first win came in the 400-yard individual medley where he broke the school record in the event by four seconds.
Kohlus scored wins for the Knights in both the 400-yard IM and the 500-yard freestyle on Saturday. His freestyle win came in a time of 5:14.48, while his record breaking swim in the individual medley came in 4:33.37. Kohlus bested the previous mark of 4:37.38 set by Haftom Gebremedhin set in 2006.
Classmate
Michael Neugebauer (Newburgh, N.Y.) also had a strong day, winning both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke for the Mount. His freestyle win came in a time of 2:04.46 and he topped the field in the breaststroke with a time of 2:36.58.
Sophomore
Athar Khan (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and senior
Kyle Barber (Shelton, Conn.) also swam to victories for the Knights. Khan won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:44.27, while Barber swam past everyone in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:20.68.
Freshmen
P.J. Ramsey (Plantsville, Conn.) and Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.) along with junior
Philippe Noisy (New York, N.Y.) and senior
Ryan Ward (Brooklyn, N.Y.) all turned in second place finishes on Saturday. Ramsey took the second spot in the 50-yard freestyle, Gallo was the runner-up in 500-yard freestyle, Noisy placed second in the 200-yard backstroke and Ward showed a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.
The Knights closed the meet with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Kohlus, Ramsey, Barber and Ward finished better than 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up with a time of 3:38.90.
At 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference, Mount Saint Mary will be back in the pool on November 18 when it begins competition at the two-day Diamond City Invitational in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
