Newburgh, N.Y. – Coming off a road loss at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team looks to rebound on Tuesday night when it welcomes St. Joseph's-L.I. to the Kaplan Center in an important conference tilt. Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) was the only Mount Saint Mary player to score in double-figures, finishing with 10 points.
T.J. Patsalos (Newburgh, N.Y.) and
Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) each contributed nine points as the Knights were held under 40-percent shooting for the 10
th time this season.
Junior
Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.), who was held under double-figures for just the second time this season on Saturday, leads the Knights in scoring with 14.9 points per game. Nocera adds 6.4 rebounds per game and is shooting 49.2-percent from the floor in 189 attempts.
Nocera and Bacci are tied for the team lead in three-point field goals with 17, with Bacci pacing the squad with 23 steals. McDine is chipping in with 7.5 points per game while handing out a team best 3.8 assists per game. He is converting at 78.1-percent from the free-throw line in a team-high 73 attempts.
Heading into Tuesday's contest, Mount Saint Mary is averaging just over 68 points per game and is shooting 40.1-percent overall from the floor. The Knights lead the Skyline Conference in scoring defense (67.5) and three-point field goal percentage defense (29.8).
Previewing the Golden Eagles: St. Joseph's-L.I. comes to town sporting a 6-13 overall record and a 5-5 mark in the Skyline Conference play and is coming off a 68-58 win over Sarah Lawrence on Saturday. Isaiah Moore led the scoring attack with 22 points, while Andy Laurent poured in 21 points. Fernando Vasquez finished off the contest with eight rebounds, seven points and seven assists.
Laurent leads the Golden Eagles in scoring, rebounding an assists on the season, averaging 15.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and just over three assists per outing. Moore is good for 13.4 points per game for St. Joseph's, while Vasquez is posting 14.5 points per game and nearly two assists per contest.
The Golden Eagles are scoring 68.5 points per game and shoot better than 42-percent from the floor. St. Joseph's ranks fifth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (33.0), sixth in field goal percentage, eighth in scoring and 10
th in scoring defense (76.2).
Recent History: Since the start of the 1995-96 season, the Knights and Golden Eagles have met 40 times with the Mount holding a 26-14 record. The Knights have won seven of the last nine meetings, including a season sweep of St. Joseph's last season.
