Men’s Basketball Plays Host To Sarah Lawrence On Wednesday

Knights and Gryphons square-off at 8:00 p.m.

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday night when it opens a three game home stand against league rival Sarah Lawrence. Tip-off at the Kaplan Center is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary had a five game winning streak stopped on Saturday following an 81-78 road loss at Maritime that dropped it to 8-4 overall on the season and 3-1 in league play. The Privateers broke a 78-78 tie with four seconds left when Brendan McGovern hit a three-pointer out of a timeout.
 
Junior Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) paced the scoring attack with 20 points and closed a strong all-around game with five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Connor Nicholson (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished up with 14 points and Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) returned to the lineup with 13 points, knocking down three triples in the game. Freshman Jovin Ramos (Secaucus, N.J.) poured in a career-high 13 points off the bench after going 5-for-8 from the floor.
 
The Knights shot 46.2-percent from the floor on Saturday and outscored the Privateers by 10 in the paint. Maritime shot nearly 47-percent for the game and was led by 24 points and 14 rebounds from Patrick MacDonald.
 
Nocera, who has scored in double-figures in each of the last 10 games, leads the Mount in scoring at 15.1 points per game, while Wolff is good for 11.5 tallies per night and a team-high 8.0 rebounds. Coming off a nine helper performance on Saturday, Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) is handing out 4.1 assists per game and is shooting 81.7-percent from the free-throw line in a team-high 60 attempts.
 
Heading into Wednesday's tilt, the Mount is scoring 68.9 points per game and is shooting 74.3-percent from the free-throw line. The Knights enter the week ranked second in the conference in scoring defense and is the league's leader in field goal percentage defense and free-throw percentage.
 
Scouting Sarah Lawrence: The Gryphons come to town with a record of 5-6 overall and an even 1-1 mark against league rivals. Sarah Lawrence dropped an 86-60 decision to Purchase on Saturday and has dropped three of its last five outings overall.
 
Jeff Jordan came off the bench to lead the team with 21 points against the Panthers after going a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. B.J. Sanders and Graham Gilleran also netted double-figures, finishing with 12 and 11 respectively.
 
Sarah Lawrence rounded out the day shooting 36.5-percent overall for the game and converted just one of its 21 three-point attempts and 13 of its 24 free-throw chances.
 
Through 11 games, Sarah Lawrence has 10 players scoring at least five points a game, but does not have a player averaging at least nine. Gabriel Eng leads the way with 8.7 points per contest with Sanders pacing the team on the glass with nearly seven rebounds per outing.
 
The Gryphons are scoring nearly 71 points per game as a team and are shooting better than 40-percent as a unit from the floor. Sarah Lawrence ranks fifth in the league in field goal percentage defense and sixth in the conference in scoring.
 
Recent History: The two squads have met four times since the start of the 2014-15 season, with the Knights holding a 3-1 record. The Mount took the first meeting last year in Newburgh by a score of 83-60, before falling on the road in Bronxville 76-56.
 
What's Next: After Wednesday's tilt, the Mount will be off until January 17 when it plays host to Farmingdale State.
