Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team will play its first game since September 10 Tuesday night when it travels to Drew for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off with the Rangers. The game is the first of three for the Knights this week who will open Skyline Conference play on Friday against Sarah Lawrence before traveling to Yeshiva on Sunday.
At A Glance: Following a schedule quirk that gave the Knights a 10 day layoff at the beginning of the season, the Mount will be back in action Tuesday for the first time since dropping a 4-0 decision to Montclair State on September 10.
The Mount enters Tuesday's tilt at 1-4 overall after splitting two games in the MSMC Tournament, with the team's lone win on the season coming in a 3-0 win over New Paltz in the opener of the event.
Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.),
Nicole Cavallo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and
Jackie Davis (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) all scored their first goals of the season, while junior
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) picked up a pair of assists in the win.
All four players are tied for the team lead in scoring with two points apiece through five games, while newcomer
Claire Newman (Cromwell, Conn.) has one point following an assist in the New Paltz game.
Junior goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) earned her 30
th win in net against the Hawks with her 21
st career shutout. Through five games in 2016, Riley has made 33 saves and holds a .717 save percentage.
A Look At Drew: The Rangers enter Tuesday's contest with a 3-2-1 overall record and are coming off a 1-0 win over Delaware Valley on Saturday. Erin Connors scored her third goal of the season late in regulation to secure the win, while goalkeeper Ryan Jackson finished with three saves in the shutout.
Connors' marker on Saturday tied her with Caroline Kelly for the team lead in goals with three and she holds the team lead in points with seven. She is one of five different players with an assist on the year and paces the squad in shots with 27.
Jackson has played 380 of a possible 574 minutes between the pipes for the Rangers and holds a 1.18 goals against average and a .765 save percentage while making 19 stops. Andee Higgins has seen action in three games, including two starts and has made seven saves for Drew.
Recent History: The Knights and Rangers have met in each of the last two years, with the Mount posting a win and a tie. In a 3-1 win over Drew at home in 2014, Riley made one save in the win as Mount Saint Mary outshot Drew 26-5. A season ago, also in Newburgh, the two sides played to a scoreless draw. Riley earned the shutout with a pair of saves, while Higgins and Sara Nash combined for nine stops for Drew. The Knights finished the game with a 12-5 edge in shots, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.
What's Next: Following Tuesday's tilt on the road, Mount Saint Mary will return home to open conference play against Sarah Lawrence on Friday evening. The Knights will head back out on the road Sunday to take on Yeshiva to close out the week.
