Mount Saint Mary Hosts Farmingdale State On Friends of Jaclyn Day

Knights honor foundation and adopted teammate Saturday

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team will open Skyline Conference play on Saturday, April 2 when it welcomes Farmingdale State to Kaplan Field for Friends of Jaclyn Day. The Knights will honor the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and Brielle Furci who was adopted by the team in the fall. Opening Draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and is free to the public.
 
In addition to the game, there will be Friends of Jaclyn items for sale to benefit the foundation as well as well as a Love Your Mellon table. There will be raffles with all proceeds going towards the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Also in attendance will be the Ice Mother, selling Italian ices outside of the GA buildings.
 
Four baskets will be raffled off on Saturday:
Basket #1- FOJ String Back Pack with Alex and Ani FOJ Bracelet, FOJ magnet and 2 FOJ T-shirts
Basket #2- Rockland Boulder Baseball Tickets, Baseball Glove and 2 T-shirts
Basket #3- Love Your Melon basket with LYM Beanie, LYM coffee mug and candy
Basket #4- Knights Athletic Apparel from various sports teams
 
Denis Murphy, founder of the foundation and Jaclyn's father, will be on hand to speak about the how the foundation started and the work it is doing nationwide.
 
Furci, who has played two years of club lacrosse and is a member of the Junior Varsity program at Yorktown High School, joined the Knights on October 16.
 
"We are excited to help support the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and Brielle at tomorrow's game. Brielle has been a wonderful addition to our lacrosse family and brings so much positivity and light to the team. Coach Lowell has also been a wonderful ambassador for FOJ and his involvement has really helped to make this friendship with the foundation and Brielle possible," said Head Coach Julia Steese on Friday.
 
Assistant Coach Mike Lowell stated upon the adoption, "Lacrosse is a sport founded on spirit and unity. As we continue the FOJ mission we bring Brielle into our family to offer her all of our love, support and friendship."
 
About the Friends of Jaclyn: The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers and to raise awareness through their Adopt-A-Child, Safe on the Sidelines and Guardian Angel Programs.
