Mount Saint Mary College hosted the top-seeded Merchant Marine Mariners this Wednesday evening. The Knights got off to a solid start in the opening minutes, forcing a turnover and getting the first shot on goal off a free position attempt.
Peyton Curley would save the first two shots she faced, including a tough free-position shot. Things would begin to go downhill after the first goal from Merchant Marine. The Mariners scored six unanswered goals in the first quarter as they took a 6-0 lead.
The Knights were unable to beat the Merchant Marine press, as they were forced into 27 turnovers on the game and were just 6-17 on clearance attempts, their lowest clearance percentage in a game this season. The Mariners continued to control the game into the second quarter, scoring another eight goals as they took a 14-0 lead heading into the half.
The Mount found themselves trailing 18-0 early on in the fourth quarter, but were able to get themselves on the scoreboard with a goal from
Shannon McGowan that was assisted by
Kasey Senior. The Knights added another goal later in the quarter when a ball would take a friendly bounce for
Delisianna Naccarato. Mount Saint Mary would ultimately lose this match to Merchant Marine by the final score of 19-2.
