Bronxville, N.Y. – Led by a pair of individual victories from
Christopher Sagan (West Hempstead, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team scored a 102-84 Skyline Conference road win at Sarah Lawrence on Saturday afternoon.
Sagan continued his strong season on Saturday against the Gryphons with victories in both the 1,650-yard freestyle and the 200-yard breaststroke. Sagan won the mile swim in a time of 19:03.02 before taking the breaststroke event in 2:30.03.
Steven Fejes (Stony Point, N.Y.) followed in the freestyle event in 20:14.82, with
Matthew Gamboa (Huntington, N.Y.) taking second in the breaststroke in 2:44.66.
Sophomore
Jake Schoenherr (Scarsdale, N.Y.) added a win for the Knights in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.09 seconds, with
Kyle Barber (Shelton, Conn.) and
Sam Watson topping the competition in the 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard backstroke, respectively. Barber posting a winning time of 4:44.66 with Watson taking his win in 2:13.59.
Mount Saint Mary also got a strong effort from
Ryan Verillo (Cheshire, Conn.) who took second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:22.17 and third place in the 200-yard freestyle. Watson added a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle on Saturday, with Gamboa taking second in the 400-yard individual medley and Fejes placing second in the 500-yard freestyle.
In addition to strong individual swims on Saturday, the Knights took both the relay events against the Gryphons. The Mount's team of Watson, Sagan, Barber and Schoenherr won the 400-yard medley race in 4:24.15, with the squad of Schoenherr, Barber, Verillo and Fejes winning the 400-yard freestyle event in 3:41.55.
Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 3-2 overall in dual meets on the season and to 2-0 in conference action. The Knights will return to the pool on November 21 when they take part of Day One of the Diamond City Invitational hosted by King's (Pa.).
