Mount Saint Mary Set To Host Mount Saint Vincent In Opening Round Of Skyline Tournament

Knights topped CMSV 2-1 on September 25

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team will begin its quest for a conference championship on Saturday afternoon when it welcomes the College of Mount Saint Vincent to Newburgh for the Opening Round of the Skyline Conference Tournament. The third seeded Knights and sixth seeded Dolphins will kick-off at 12:00 p.m. Live stats for the game will be available here.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary enters Saturday's contest with a 13-6-1 overall record and closed the season with nine wins in 10 conference outings following a 7-0 shutout win on the road at Maritime on Tuesday night. The Knights strung together a six game unbeaten string from September 19 – October 3, going 5-0-1, and did not drop more than two consecutive games during the course of the regular season.
 
Senior Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.) leads the Knights in scoring through the regular season, netting a team-high 11 goals and recording a team-high 24 points. She has registered three game winning goals in 2015 and has recorded four multiple goal games for the Knights.
 
Melissa Maini (Massapequa Park, N.Y.), Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) and Jaqueline Davis (Islip Terrance, N.Y.) will all enter Saturday's tilt with five goals, with Maini and Davis each sitting second on the team with 14 points. O'Sullivan has potted three game winning goals on the season, including one in a 2-0 victory over Farmingdale State on September 27.
 
Mount Saint Mary is outscoring its opponents at a rate of 46-20 and has posted 122 points, while allowing only 56 through 20 games. The Knights show 15 players with at least one goal and 10 players with at least one assist. Junior Alaina Neddermann (Prospect, Conn.) leads the team with six helpers and sophomore Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) has helped on five Mount Saint Mary tallies.
 
In goal, sophomore Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) has played all 1,800:01 team minutes in goal in 2015 and has stopped 76 opponent attempts. She holds a 1.00 goals against average and a .792 save percentage on her way to 13 victories and 10 shutouts during her sophomore campaign. In her two year career with the Knights, Riley holds a 27-11-2 record and has posted 19 shutouts.

Head Coach: In her second year at the helm of the Women's Soccer program at Mount Saint Mary, BreLynn Nasypany has posted a 27-11-2 overall record and a stellar 16-1-1 mark against league rivals. In her first season in Newburgh, Nasypany guided the Knights back to the Skyline Conference title game for the fifth straight season and in 2015 has Mount Saint Mary back in the conference tournament for the ninth consecutive year.
 
Nasypany took over the program in Newburgh after serving as an assistant coach at William Smith in 2013. The Herons won the 2013 National Title, with the coaching staff earning Division III and Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
 
At standout player at William Smith, Nasypany was named First Team All-Liberty League four times and the Liberty League Rookie of the Year in 2007. Nasypany went on to be named the league's Player of the Year in 2008 and was made a NSCAA First Team All-American selection in both 2008 and 2010.
 
A Look at Mount Saint Vincent: After a sluggish start to the 2015 season, Mount Saint Vincent won four of its final five regular season games to stand at 6-11 overall and 4-5 in league play, earning its third straight berth into the conference tournament. The Dolphins posted shutout wins over Lehman, Sarah Lawrence, Maritime and Yeshiva coming down the stretch, before falling in the regular season finale at Farmingdale State on Tuesday.
 
Sophomore Julia McGowan leads Mount Saint Vincent with 12 goals and 25 points in 2015, with classmate Kelly Gibison and senior Victoria Astorino each standing at six goals heading into Saturday's contest.
 
Elizabeth Martin has made 13 starts in goal for the Dolphins, stopping 79 opponent shots and posting a.725 save percentage.
 
The 2015 matchup: The Knights played host to the Dolphins on September 25, with Mount Saint Mary sneaking past the Dolphins by a score of 2-1. Freshman Hannah Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Knights in the sixth minute as Mount Saint Mary held an 11-2 edge in shots heading into halftime.
 
Mount Saint Vincent junior Erica Lencsak brought the Dolphins even at 1-1 in the 61st minute, before Maini netted the game winner at the 66:18 mark of the contest off a pass from Ribadeneyra.
 
The Knights held an 18-7 advantage in shots in the game, including a 13-5 edge in shots on goal, and doubled up the Dolphins in corner kicks 6-3. Riley made four stops in the victory, while Martin stopped 11 shots for the visitors.
 
The Series: Since the start of the 1996 season, Mount Saint Mary and Mount Saint Vincent have hooked up 20 times, with the Knights holding an 18-2 record.  Mount Saint Mary has outscored the Dolphins 111-11 over that stretch and the goal in the 2015 matchup was the first for the Dolphins against the Knights since 2008. Saturday's matchup will be the first between the two squads in the conference tournament.
 
Skyline Conference Tournament: Mount Saint Mary will make its ninth straight appearance in the Skyline Conference Tournament and has advanced to the championship game of the event in each of the last five seasons.
 
What's Next: Saturday's other quarterfinal contest features Old Westbury and St. Joseph's-L.I. with the winner of that game advancing to play top-seeded Farmingdale State on Wednesday. The winner of the Mount Saint Mary and Mount Saint Vincent game will earn the right to travel to Sage on Wednesday to take on the Gators in a semifinal matchup.
 
The Knights closed the regular season with victories in five of its last six games to stand at 13-6-1 overall.
