NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College swim teams bounced back from Friday evening's loss to Marywood University, as both the men's and women's teams defeated Elms College Saturday afternoon in the Kaplan Center Pool. The men secured the victory with a win in the final relay for a final score of 126-121, while the women won by a decisive score of 206-54.

Christopher Sagan (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and freshman
Ryan Ward (Brooklyn, N.Y.) swam a time of 1:38.04 to beat their opponents by almost 10 seconds and earn the dual-meet victory for the Knights. Ward was victorious on his own twice in Saturday's meet, winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.03) and the 50-yard freestyle (24.30). Schoenherr picked up an individual victory earlier in the day, finishing the 50-yard breaststroke in 30.86 for the top time in the event. Junior
Sam Watson (Groton, Conn.) also grabbed two individual wins, touching first in the 50-yard backstroke (27.93) and again in the 100-yard backstroke (59.65).
The Knight women were victorious in 13-of-14 events on Saturday to score their highest team total of the season. Sophomore
Jessica Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.) won both long-distance events for the Knights, swimming a time of 12:04.47 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, and 5:49.03 in the 500-yard race. Freshman
Marissa Catania (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was victorious in both breaststroke races, finishing the 50-yarder in 35.87, and later touching first in the 100-yard event with a time of 1:13.19. Freshman
Kate Bell (Wilton, Conn.) was also a big contributor with wins in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.02) and the 50-yard butterfly (29.84). Senior captain
Danielle Rodriguez (Highland, N.Y.) won the 50-yard freestyle event by a full second with a time of 26.74.
The Knights will next compete at St. Joseph's College (L.I.) on Saturday, Jan. 17, beginning at 1 p.m. The women's team will partake in a double-dual meet against St. Joe's and the College of Mount Saint Vincent, while the men's team will face off with Mount Saint Vincent in a neutral-site dual meet.
