Box Score ANNANDALE, N.Y. – Seven different Knights scored at the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team (6-4) defeated local rival Bard College (3-6), 14-6, Tuesday evening at Ferrari Field.
Freshman attacker
Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.), fresh off a Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week campaign last week, started the new week with four goals to lead the Knights. Sophomore midfielder
Katie McGinnis (Shelton, Conn.) added her first hat trick of the season, while sophomore attacker
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) and senior midfielder
Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) each notched two goals and an assist in Tuesday's victory.
With the score tied 1-1 just over two minutes in, the Knights turned up the heat, going on a nine-run scoring streak to take a 10-1 lead. Bard scored once more with 4:47 left to play before the break, so the Knights took at 10-2 advantage into halftime.
The Knights went on to score the first four goals of the second half. Bard tallied the final four goals of the game, but it was too late for the Raptors to get back into the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Deirdre Ray (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) picked up the win with six saves. Winta Mehari suffered the loss for Bard, allowing 14 goals and stopping 10 shots.
Senior attacker
Nicole Palmieri (Elwood, N.Y.), senior midfielder
Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.) and freshman midfielder
Kayla Goman (Greenwich, N.Y.) added the other three goals for the Knights. Ray picked up a game-high seven ground balls, while Goman led the Knights with three caused turnovers. McDermott scooped up four draw controls in the win.
Stephanie LaMont scored four time for Bard, while Brianna Bean and Alexandra Clarke tallied the other two goals. Bean had a three-point outing, dishing out two assists to go with her goal. Joanna Regan grabbed six ground balls for the Raptors, caused five turnovers and picked up five draw controls.
The Knights held a 26-16 advantage in shots, including a 24-12 edge in shots on net. They picked up 30 ground balls to 24 for Bard. Bard held a 12-10 lead in draw controls on the evening.
The Knights return to action on Thursday, April 10, when they take on Purchase College in Skyline Conference action. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
