Baseball Picks Up Rare Sweep of Farmingdale State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – For the first time in head coach Steve Sosler's tenure at the helm, Mount Saint Mary College baseball team (7-6, 2-0 Skyline) swept Farmingdale State College (12-7, 4-2 Skyline) Saturday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium. The Knights last swept Farmingdale State almost six years ago in a doubleheader at the Mount on April 7, 2008. They held on to win game one, 6-5, and then earned a gritty 3-1 win after taking an early lead.

More information from game one will be added once it becomes available.

Sophomore starter Brandon Lubrano (Mineola, N.Y.) picked up a complete-game victory in game one to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Senior left fielder Vinnie Carminati (Huntington, N.Y.) picked up an RBI single in the bottom of the first to kick off the scoring in game two. Freshman third baseman Rob Peccerillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) followed with another run-scoring single to push the Knight lead to 2-0.

Farmingdale State got one back in the top of the second, when Brendan Sullivan singled in Ryan Levine to cut the deficit in half. The Knights quickly made up that run when sophomore center fielder Mike Leone (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second. Neither team managed to score another run in the final five innings of Saturday's nightcap.

Freshman starter Kevin Duffy (Wallingford, Conn.) allowed just one run in seven innings of work to pick up his first collegiate victory. Alex Weingarten lost for the first time this season for the Rams, allowing three runs (two earned) across six innings.

Peccerillo went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Knights in game two. Carminati knocked in another run in a 1-for-3 effort, while Leone scored twice in a 1-for-3 outing.

Ryan Levine scored once in a 2-for-3 effort for the Rams. Brendan Sullivan went 1-for-1 with the only Farmingdale State RBI, while Anthony Alvino and Andrew Karkota each hit 1-for-3.

The Knights return to action tomorrow, April 6, when they host Yeshiva University at Dutchess Stadium for another Skyline doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set to be thrown at 12 p.m.
