Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team (13-19, 7-9 Skyline) saw its postseason hopes disappear with a 12-2 loss at the College of Mount Saint Vincent (15-17, 8-8 Skyline) Sunday afternoon in a make-up game originally scheduled for April 21. The win boosted the Dolphins past the Knights and into the sixth and final spot in the Skyline Conference Championship tournament.
The Knights fell behind 4-0 before getting on the board in the top of the fifth on Sunday. Senior catcher
Chris Chieffo (Waterbury, Conn.) knocked in the only Knight runs of the game on a two-RBI single down the left field line. The Dolphins added eight more runs across the next four innings before the game was stopped in the bottom of the eighth.
Brian Rush went all eight innings for the Dolphins, allowing just two runs to pick up the win. Sophomore starter
Brandon Lubrano (Mineola, N.Y.) suffered the loss for the Knights, allowing five runs across five innings.
Every Dolphin in the lineup picked up a hit on Sunday, including seven that had multi-hit games. Chieffo knocked in two for the Knights in a 1-for-3 effort. Sophomore center fielder
Mike Leone (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 1-for-3 with a double and a run.
Despite being eliminated from tournament contention, the Knights are scheduled to play one more regular season game. They will take on nationally-ranked No. 6 SUNY Cortland at the Mount on Wednesday, May 7, at 4 p.m.
