Baseball Drops Non-Conference Matchup with CCNY in Extras, 3-2

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team (11-16) dropped a 3-2 decision to City College of New York (9-11-1) in 10 innings Tuesday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium.
 
Jacob Sonenshine broke the tie in the top of the 10th inning with an RBI double, scoring Adrian Pena from second for the eventual winning run.
 
CCNY took the initial lead in the top of the first on a fielder's choice by Gabriel Pena, bringing in Jhosse Estrella from third to go up 1-0 early. The Knights quickly tied on an RBI single by freshman first baseman Rob Peccerillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) in their first at bat.
 
The Knights later took their only lead of the game when freshman third baseman Luis Rivera (Linden, N.J.) scored after advancing on three wild pitches. CCNY made up for it in the seventh when the Beavers also scored a run on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2. The game went scoreless for the final two innings of regulation before the Beavers picked up the win in the first extra-inning.
 
Sacha Urbach picked up the win after tossing 6.2 innings in relief for the Beavers and allowing just one run. Junior reliever Andrew Conn (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) suffered the loss after allowing the winning run in 3.1 innings of relief.
 
Richard Bethea went 3-for-5 for the Beavers, while Estrella batted 1-for-3 with a run. Adrian Pena went 1-for-1 with a run and four walks in CCNY's win.
 
Senior left fielder Vinnie Carminati (Huntington, N.Y.) hit 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored to lead the Knights. Peccerillo knocked in Carminati in a 1-for-3 effort, while senior catcher Chris O'Connor (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
 
The Knights quickly get back to work with a matinee doubleheader tomorrow, April 23, against NYU-Poly. First pitch of the crucial Skyline twinbill will be thrown at 12 p.m.
