Box Score NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's lacrosse team (5-8) took care of business at home on Thursday, defeating Bryn Athyn College (2-9), 10-5, in non-conference action at Kaplan Field.
Freshman attacker
Shaun McMahon (Commack, N.Y.) improved his multi-goal game streak to three games with a hat trick to lead the Knights in Thursday's victory. He now leads the team with 16 goals on the season.
Both teams traded goals to reach a 2-2 tie through the first quarter. The Knights scored twice to open the second quarter, but Bryn Athyn matched to tie the game at 4-4. The Knights then closed out the half with a pair of goals to take a 6-4 lead into the break.
Another two goals to open the third put the Knights up by four goals. The Lions got one back, but junior midfielder
Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored 55 seconds later to put the Knights back up by four. After taking a 9-5 lead into the final quarter, freshman midfielder
Michael Romanik (Hicksville, N.Y.) added one more to reach the 10-5 final score.
Junior goalkeeper
Connor Haran (Massapequa, N.Y.) earned the win for the Knights, stopping 12 shots and allowing just five goals. Robert Moran made 15 saves for Bryn Athyn, but gave up 10 goals to suffer the loss.
Sophomore midfielder
CJ Cardo (Merrick, N.Y.) scored twice in a three-point effort, while Robison also tallied three points with a pair of assists and a goal. Haran scooped up a team-high nine ground balls.
Michael Donnelly scored three times to lead Bryn Athyn. Luke Frazier scored once and assisted another goal for a two-point game. Moran grabbed a game-high 10 ground balls.
Shots were even for most of the game, but a 12-6 difference in the fourth quarter gave the Knights a 37-28 edge. The Mount scooped up 60 ground balls while Bryn Athyn managed 46. The Knights won 10-of-18 face-offs in the win.
The Knights return to action on Tuesday, April 22, when they will celebrate Senior Day in a home game against Hartwick College at Kaplan Field. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
