Baseball Swept in Skyline Doubleheader at St. Joseph’s (LI)

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – A rough afternoon at the plate hindered the Mount Saint Mary College baseball team (11-14, 5-5 Skyline), as they were swept in a Skyline Conference doubleheader by St. Joseph's College (L.I.) (12-14, 7-4 Skyline) on Thursday. The Golden Eagles took an early lead in both games to win by scores of 5-0 and 2-1.

The Golden Eagles put up a four spot on the Knights in the first inning of game one to take the only lead they needed to win the opener. They added one more in the eighth to reach the final score of 5-0.

Glen Patriss earned the win for St. Joe's, tossing the full nine innings without allowing a run. Sophomore starter Brandon Lubrano (Mineola, N.Y.) suffered his first loss of the season after yielding four earned runs across 7.2 innings.

Dan Diblasi went 3-for-4 for the Golden Eagles, while Joseph Calabrese hit 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore second baseman James Nakashian (Massapequa, N.Y.) picked up three of the Knights' four hits on the afternoon.

The Eagles got on the board in the first inning again in game two, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Diblasi. They added another run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI ground out by Brian Godoy. The Knights then scored their only run on the afternoon on a double by Nakashian, but they were unable to continue the rally and tie the game.

Steve Szobesky picked up the win for the Golden Eagles, allowing one run in 5.1 innings of work. Frank Trionfo grabbed a save by holding the Knights off the board for the final 1.2 innings. Freshman starter Kevin Duffy (Wallingford, Conn.), the two-time reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, suffered a hard-luck loss after allowing just one earned run and striking out six across six frames.

Diblasi and Godoy each went 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead St. Joe's. Nakashian capped off a big day at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort in game two.

The Knights will look to half their losing streak at five games when they face off with the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline doubleheader on Monday, April 21. Game one is set to begin at a special Monday time of 12 p.m.
