Women’s Lacrosse Upends Sage, 18-4, in Regular Season Finale

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – 12 different Knights scored as the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team (8-6, 5-2 Skyline) defeated The Sage Colleges (3-8, 2-5 Skyline), 18-4, Wednesday evening at Kaplan Field, eliminating the Gators from Skyline Conference Championship tournament contention.
 
Seniors Nicole Palmieri (Elwood, N.Y.) and Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) each tallied a hat trick to tie for the game high. Sophomore midfielder Katie McGinnis (Shelton, Conn.) picked up a game-best four points on three assists and a goal, while sophomore defenders Claire Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) and Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) each recorded three points (two goals for Duffy, two assists for Scicutella).
 
Sophomore attacker Shannon McGuinness (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored her first two goals of the season, while freshman defender Courtney Blanton (Huntington, N.Y.) netted the first of her collegiate career later in the second half. Freshman attacker Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) scored once to improve her team lead to 44 goals on the season.
 
Freshman Fae Kuhnen (Bayside, N.Y.) earned her first win as a goalkeeper, stopping four shots and allowing just one goal in the first half. Jackie St. Pierre suffered the loss for the Gators, but made a game-high 10 saves.
 
Kimberlee Carr tallied two goals for the Gators, while Melissa Spring and Mallory Hansen scored the other two goals for the visitors.
 
The No. 3-seeded Knights are destined for a Skyline semifinal matchup with No. 2 St. Joseph's College (L.I.) after the Golden Eagles lost to Farmingdale State College on Wednesday. The Knights and Golden Eagles will face off in Patchogue, N.Y. on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 p.m. No. 1 Farmingdale State will host No. 4 College of Mount Saint Vincent next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
