Women’s Lacrosse Dominates in 16-5 Victory at Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team (7-4, 4-1 Skyline) made quick work of Purchase College (5-3, 2-3 Skyline) Thursday evening, defeating the Panthers, 16-5, in Skyline Conference action.
 
The Knights took a 5-0 lead before the Panthers got on the board for the first time. Another five-goal run put the Knights up 10-1 before Purchase got another. The Knights closed out the first half with another pair of goals to take a 12-2 advantage into halftime.
 
The scoring slowed down for much of the second frame, as neither team managed to score until the Panthers hit the back of the net with the clock reading 16:33. The teams traded goals for much of the remainder of the game, with the Knights eventually taking a 4-3 edge in the half for the 16-5 final score.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Deirdre Ray (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) allowed five goals and made five saves to earn the victory on Thursday. Purchase's Jess Lindsay took the loss after allowing 16 goals, but she managed to stop 12 shots.
 
Senior attacker Nicole Palmieri (Elwood, N.Y.) scored a season-high four goals and added an assist for a five-point game to lead the Knights. Sophomore defender Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) netted a pair and dished out an assist for three points, while three other Knights had multi-goal games. Senior defender Molly Bauer (Levittown, N.Y.) scooped up a game-high six ground balls, while sophomore midfielder Katie McGinnis (Shelton, Conn.) grabbed six draw controls.
 
Samantha Rich picked up a hat trick for the Panthers with three goals. Annette Nelson led the home team with five draw controls.
 
The Knights held a significant 33-13 edge in shots on Thursday. They doubled up the Panthers with 24 ground balls to just 12. They also caused seven turnovers, while Purchase caused just one.
 
The Knights return to action on Saturday, April 12, when they travel to St. Joseph's College (L.I.) for a Skyline Conference matchup with the Golden Eagles. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
